The Last Kingdom Season 4 Recap and What Can We Expect in Season 5?
The Last Kingdom follows the story of Uthred of Bebbanburg and his quest to England and Beyond. After the Fourth Season’s conclusion, we witnessed Uhtred of Bebbanburg and his men were tasked with defending off the advances from yet another Viking invaders. This time their leader was Sigtryggr. Sigtryggr turned out to be a very competent leader and managed to take over the Winchester when King Edward left his castle undefended, thinking that the Vikings no longer possessed a threat now. When King Edward and the Wessex Guard returned to Wessex’s kingdom and got to know about the whole scenario, they declared if Sigtryggr does not open the gates and surrender, then there will be a massacre. Still, the gates remained shut as before, and the clever Sigtryggr was managed to defeat Edward’s foolish strategy once again, leaving most of his man injured. After the defeat, Winchester remained ruled by the Clever Siggtryger for more than 30 days, and soon he once again summons King Edward by blowing the horns then he informs him that he wishes to speak to him eye-to-eye. Stubborn Edward also orders Aldhelm to tell Sigtryggr to surrender, or he will send in more men to attack the gates. Sigtryggr then shows Edward his two Sons held captive by him and warns him if he even thought of attacking the gates again, he will kill both of his sons at once. So Edward, now without having any other options, orders his men to lower their swords. Now comes Uhtred, who addresses Sigtryggr at the gates. He tells Sigtryggr to send out both of Edward’s children, and in turn, he will walk into the Winchester alone. After that, if they want, they can kill him as he has killed thousands of his Viking brothers in the battle, so Sigtryggr agrees to make the exchange, and as Uhtred enters Winchester as Aethelstan and Aelfweard retreat going into their father Edward’s arms.

And after that, we saw the series concluded with an uneasy partnership being made partially secured by Uhtred’s daughter Sierra, who now decided to become partner herself with ambiguous Dane warrior Sigtryggr and in the end, we saw King Edward making a deal Siggtryggr by giving him Eoferwic and making a pact with him never to enter Wessex ever again. Finally, King Edward regains his kingdom again, and he now offers the responsibility of his dearest son Aethelstan to Uthred and tells him to train and raise him as a warrior he is. So what happens next in the Last Kingdom? For that, we have to wait for its release. But according to some new developments, we got to know that in the Fifth Season of The Last Kingdom, Uthred will follow his ambitions, and also the fifth season will be somewhat the most heartbreaking season for Uthred, as mentioned in the Official Synopsis.
