Born on 26 August 1975, Monica Galetti grew up in  Samoa, a small island nation at the crossroads of Asia and Oceania. She was initially raised by two aunts when her mother moved to Auckland, New Zealand for a job. At the age of seven, Monica shifted from Samoa to Wellington, New Zealand, where she lived with her parents and five siblings. As a teenager she decided to pursue a food career, studying for a diploma in the field at the Central Institute of Technology. Galetti’s first job after graduation was at the Lower Hut restaurant, Timothy. The next step in her career was to get a job at one of the most prestigious restaurants in London. Monica began her career as a chef in Le Gavroche in 2000. She went all out and eventually became one of the two main cooks.

Previously, Monica worked in the kitchen departments and became a senior house chef, and she continued in that position until 2015. Galetti was the first woman to hold such a senior position in a restaurant. Monica has been a judge on the BBC competition program MasterChef: The Professionals since 2009 and has been with Giles Coren since 2017 on Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby.
