Patchogue, a small town in New York, has a little bakery called The Savory Fig known for its gluten-free and vegan treats. But recently, they got into some trouble.
Another local shop, CindySnacks in Huntington, got worried when they found a doughnut in their order that looked a lot like the ones from Dunkin’ Donuts. They posted about it on Instagram, saying The Savory Fig might have mixed non-vegan doughnuts with their vegan ones.
The owner of The Savory Fig, Michell Siriani, denied it, saying she’d never do that but the doubt was already spreading and became a part of people’s confused conversation.
Later, it was confirmed that the doughnut from The Savory Fig did contain gluten, which was a problem for people with allergies.
The situation got so bad that Michell Siriani thought about moving her bakery. But she promised to work with the authorities to make sure it didn’t happen again.
To be safe, The Savory Fig recalled their products, even though it was a big step. But they wanted to make sure their customers were safe.
This incident demonstrated how important it is for food businesses to be honest about what’s in their products. Though nobody got sick from The Savory Fig’s treats, it’s a reminder to always be careful about what we eat.
