Maschinen-Mensch, an indie studio, has announced its new game titled Mother Machine. The game is a co-op roguelike with platforming mechanics, where up to four players can team up to navigate hostile, procedurally generated environments. It will be released on PC and consoles, with support for Steam Decks, aiming for a launch in the first quarter of 2025.
Mother Machine features a unique premise where players control “chaos gremlins,” strange, revolting creatures born from a supercomputer known as the Mother Machine.
Abandoned on a planet once inhabited by humans, these gremlins venture into the unknown, attempting to survive, uncover the mysteries of their world, and learn more about their mother. Players can further customize their gremlins with mutations that enhance their abilities.
Accessibility is a key focus for Mother Machine, as the procedurally generated environments allow players of different skill levels to collaborate effectively. The game also supports drop-in co-op, enabling players to join others’ sessions at any time. This flexible design enhances the game’s cooperative gameplay and broadens its appeal to a wider audience.
Riad Djemli, CEO of Maschinen-Mensch, emphasized the studio’s commitment to procedural gameplay and innovation. Building on the success of their previous titles, Curious Expedition 1 and 2, the studio has grown significantly, with a team of over 20 talented developers. Djemli expressed enthusiasm for bringing their distinctive approach to the action-RPG genre with this new intellectual property, Mother Machine.
Mother Machine promises a fresh and accessible co-op experience, combining procedural environments with platforming and action-RPG elements.
