Witchfire RPG Shooter Launches on Steam Early Access in 2024 With New Content Update

The Astronauts, a game studio known for its work on Painkiller and Bulletstorm, has announced that their RPG shooter, Witchfire, is set to launch on Steam Early Access in 2024. Players can now wishlist the game on Steam and be notified when it becomes available.

The game is currently in early access on the Epic Games Store, where a significant new update, The Wailing Tower, has recently been released. This update introduces a new map, new enemies, gear, and additional features.

The Wailing Tower patch brings a fresh cosmic horror theme to Witchfire, adding a new raid map and gameplay elements. Arcana power-ups are expanded with new “prophecies” and “curses,” which can either benefit or challenge players.

Additionally, players can summon the souls of fallen preyers to help them face new and formidable enemies. The update enriches the game’s already immersive and intense atmosphere, enhancing the dark fantasy experience.

In addition to gameplay enhancements, Witchfire boasts an enthralling soundtrack composed by industry veterans such as Marcin Przybyłowicz (The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077), P.T. Adamczyk (Gwent, Cyberpunk 2077), and Paweł Błaszczak (Dead Island, Dying Light). Full patch notes outlining the latest updates can be found on The Astronauts’ official website and Discord, where the studio remains actively engaged with its community.

In Witchfire, players assume the role of a sinner turned witch hunter on a mission for redemption. The game offers a challenging mix of souls-like, roguelite, and extraction-style gameplay, requiring skill and strategy to survive.

Players must defeat the Witch of the Black Sea and her formidable army, with the roguelite mechanics allowing multiple pathways to success. The game’s Arcana system enhances replayability, enabling players to build their character and arsenal in unique ways as they progress.

The game initially entered early access on the Epic Games Store in September 2023, and the studio has expressed gratitude to its early supporters. Adrian Chmielarz, the creative director, thanked players for their feedback and contributions, which have been instrumental in the game’s development.

The Astronauts, founded in 2012 by veterans of the gaming industry, operates out of Warsaw, Poland, with a small but experienced team of around 20 developers. Witchfire continues to evolve with community input as it prepares for its wider release on Steam.
