The Android platform offers a variety of built-in features, including Quick Settings, which allows users to quickly access important functions and toggles by swiping down from the top of the screen.
These Quick Settings tiles are highly customizable, providing a wide range of options, including those from third-party apps. It appears that Google is preparing to introduce a new addition to the existing Quick Settings tiles—Song Search.
According to Android Authority, an analysis of the Google app beta (version 15.39.39.29.arm64) revealed a new Quick Settings tile for Song Search.
This new tile is reportedly enabled by default when the beta is installed, so users won’t need to manually adjust settings to activate it.
When the tile is active, tapping it triggers a familiar interface that features a dotted globe-like animation, which expands and contracts as it listens for and recognizes the song.
This interface is the same one users encounter when using the Google app’s “Identify song” feature, found in the list of pill-shaped buttons just beneath the app’s search bar.
After sideloading the beta, I found the Song Search tile in the list of available but unused tiles.
You may need to scroll through the list to locate it, but once found, you can place it anywhere within your Quick Settings panel for quick access. As expected, long-pressing the tile brings you to the App Info page of the Google app.
This feature is a convenient shortcut for identifying a song stuck in your head. However, I personally prefer the Pixel’s Now Playing feature, which automatically recognizes background songs without the need for user input.
Nevertheless, this Quick Settings tile offers a much simpler way to identify songs than going through the Google app, though there are several methods available for song identification on Android devices today.
If you’re eager to try this feature, you can do so by installing the aforementioned beta of the Google app (available via APKMirror).
Since the feature is already functional in the latest Google app beta, it’s likely to roll out to the stable version in the near future.
