Prime Big Deal Days
Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days 2024 event will take place on October 8-9, exclusively for Prime members. This early holiday sale will offer deals from popular brands like LEGO, Samsung, and Disney.
In addition to the hardware upgrades, Amazon is also introducing new generative AI-powered features to compatible Fire tablets to enhance productivity and creativity.
Below are the details on the new Fire HD 8 tablets and the latest features being added to the broader Fire tablet family.
Improved Performance on the New Fire HD 8
The updated Fire HD 8 lineup includes 50% more RAM, ensuring enhanced performance while streaming, gaming, browsing, or downloading photos and videos, making it ideal for on-the-go use.
The improved performance will help users get the most out of entertainment apps like Prime Video, Audible, and Kindle. Key features include:
- Upgraded Camera: The new 5MP rear-facing camera enables users to capture and store high-quality photos and videos.
- Expandable Storage: Choose between 32GB or 64GB of storage, with the option to expand up to 1TB using a microSD card (sold separately).
- Portable Design: The 8-inch, vibrant HD display, made with strengthened aluminosilicate glass, is perfect for entertainment on the go.
- Extended Battery Life: With up to 13 hours of battery life, users can enjoy their favorite content without worrying about power depletion.
Kid-Friendly Versions
Amazon is also enhancing its kid-friendly options with the Fire HD 8 Kids and Fire HD 8 Kids Pro, designed for ages 3 to 7 and 6 to 12, respectively.
These models feature increased RAM for better performance, giving children access to thousands of books, games, videos, and apps through the Amazon Kids+ subscription.
Both models come with a two-year worry-free guarantee, promising a replacement if the tablet is damaged.
New Colors and Cases: The Fire HD 8 is available in Black, Hibiscus, and Emerald, while the Fire HD 8 Kids and Kids Pro come with sturdy, kid-proof cases in fun designs, including exclusive Disney cases like Disney Pixar Cars, Disney Princess, and Marvel Avengers.
New Generative AI-Powered Features for Fire Tablets
Amazon is adding a suite of generative AI-powered tools to Fire tablets, making them even more versatile for users. These features include:
Writing Assist: Integrated with the device’s keyboard, Writing Assist helps users refine messages, emails, and social media posts. It can suggest grammar improvements, make writing more concise, expand ideas, or even add fun elements like emojis. Users can apply preset styles to turn simple emails into professional notes.
Webpage Summaries: Available on the Silk browser, this feature provides quick summaries of web articles, helping users get the key points without scrolling through pages of text.
Wallpaper Creator: Users can now customize their tablet’s home screen by creating unique wallpapers.
Using prompts or descriptions, the Wallpaper Creator generates high-resolution images tailored to the user’s preferences, such as a tiger swimming underwater or a watercolor of a desert space.
Writing Assist, Webpage Summaries, and Wallpaper Creator will begin rolling out to all compatible Fire tablets later this month.
The Fire HD 8 will start at $349, with HSA and FSA eligibility, and shipments begin October 15th. While the starting price has increased by $50, Fire HD 8 Gen 3 units will still be available until inventory runs out.
Amazon also confirmed that the $6 monthly or $70 annual subscription fee will remain unchanged.
