Car manufacturers will soon be able to develop custom AI voice assistants for their vehicles, thanks to a new collaboration between Qualcomm and Google.
Qualcomm announced today that it is partnering with Google on an AI development system specifically designed for automakers.
This system is built on the Android Automotive OS (AAOS), Google’s infotainment platform for cars. Qualcomm is incorporating its Snapdragon Digital Chassis with Google Cloud and AAOS to create new AI-driven digital cockpits for vehicles.
In addition, Qualcomm introduced two new chips to power these systems: the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite, designed for dashboards, and the Snapdragon Ride Elite, intended for self-driving features.
The new platform will enable drivers and passengers to interact with AI voice assistants, immersive maps, and real-time driving updates.
With this system, automakers can design their own unique, marketable AI voice assistants that work independently of a smartphone connection.
Other car manufacturers are also exploring AI integration. At CES 2024, Volkswagen revealed plans to incorporate ChatGPT into the voice assistants of several new models.
After initially slow adoption, AAOS now supports vehicles from a variety of manufacturers, including Chevrolet, Honda, Volvo, and Rivian.
