One UI 7.0 is poised to introduce significant updates to Samsung’s mobile operating system.
While Samsung has yet to reveal extensive details officially, several leaks have surfaced, including screenshots showcasing some of the design changes.
Alongside these updates, certain features are being discontinued, marking a shift in compatibility for some services.
Samsung DeX App for Windows Discontinued
Among the features being cut is the Samsung DeX app for Windows, a tool that allowed users to mirror their mobile device screens on their Windows PCs.
The app also facilitated seamless file transfers between the two devices via drag-and-drop functionality.
This decision does not impact the standalone DeX feature available on Samsung phones and tablets, which delivers a PC-like interface and supports input devices such as keyboards and mice.
Samsung UK’s website has confirmed this change. A note on the DeX page states:
“The DeX for PC on Windows OS will end support from One UI 7 version. We encourage customers to connect mobile phone and PC through the Link to Windows feature.”
This decision aligns with Samsung’s effort to streamline its offerings.
Microsoft’s Link to Windows feature offers similar functionality but extends compatibility to a broader range of Android devices, making it a more versatile and optimized alternative.
Edge Panel Downloads Also Affected
In addition to discontinuing the DeX app for Windows, Samsung will also eliminate support for Edge Panel downloads from the Galaxy Store with One UI 7.0.
This suggests that Samsung has evaluated underutilized features and opted to remove them, focusing on simplifying the experience.
Streamlining for a More Unified Experience
The removal of these features reflects a broader trend toward simplification.
By directing users to widely supported and optimized solutions like Link to Windows, Samsung ensures better functionality while reducing redundancy in its ecosystem.
Similarly, removing underused features like Edge Panel downloads allows the company to focus its resources on features that have greater impact and adoption.
One UI 7.0 marks another step in refining Samsung’s mobile experience, balancing innovation with practicality.
