California Lottery officials have declared that a consortium of individuals has come forward to claim the $1.76 billion Powerball jackpot, which was won in October 2023.
As per the authorities, the winning ticket was purchased at a market situated in Frazier Park, a small town with a population of merely 3,000, on October 11. Additionally, it was disclosed on Friday that one of the members of the winning group goes by the name Theodorus Struyck.
The exact number of individuals comprising the winning group has not been revealed yet.
This jackpot stands as the second-largest ever won in the history of U.S. lotteries, requiring 36 drawings to ascertain a winner and generating over $119 million in public funding for California.
The largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history, amounting to $2.04 billion, was also won in California back in 2022.
Should the winners from October 2023 opt for the one-time lump sum, it would amount to $774.1 million. Alternatively, they have the option to receive the entire $1.76 billion through annuity payments spread over 29 years.
The establishment that sold the winning ticket, Midway Market, a family-owned business, received a $1 million bonus for being the seller.
