Although it won’t hit the market in 2024 as initially planned, Analogue is finally revealing key details about its upcoming take on the Nintendo 64.
The Analogue 3D will officially launch in the first quarter of 2025, with a price tag of $249.99. Available in black or white, preorders begin on October 21st at 11 AM ET.
Along with the release date and pricing information, Analogue has shared the first images of the console.
The Analogue 3D is a modern reinterpretation of the N64, much like the company’s previous consoles for the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy.
The system has the ability to upscale classic games to 4K resolution, with various display modes designed to replicate the nostalgic look of CRT screens. According to Analogue, it comes equipped with a “bespoke, purpose-built 4K upscaler.”
One of the standout features of the Analogue 3D is its 100% compatibility with the entire N64 cartridge library, and it’s region-free, thanks to FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) technology that allows it to operate like the original console.
This is particularly exciting for N64 fans, as the console’s games have historically been challenging to emulate.
The Analogue 3D comes with Bluetooth functionality, four original controller ports, two USB ports, and an SD card slot.
More technical specifications are available on Analogue’s website. The console also introduces a new operating system called 3D OS, with a preview available online.
While the Analogue 3D doesn’t include a controller, 8BitDo has designed a revamped version of the N64 controller, priced separately at $39.99. This updated controller eliminates the third prong of the original and features a Hall effect joystick.
It’s also compatible with the Switch, Android, and PC. For those who prefer the classic feel, original N64 controllers can still be used with the console.
This announcement arrives at a particularly dynamic time for gaming hardware. Sony is gearing up to release the PS5 Pro, and Nintendo has a new console on the way, alongside a quirky $99 alarm clock.
