On Wednesday, Meta announced that two new members will be joining their board of directors – Hock Tan, the CEO and president of Broadcom, and John Arnold, a philanthropist and former executive at Enron.
Tan has been leading the semiconductor company since 2006, giving him extensive experience in international computing infrastructure technology.
As Meta focuses on developing advanced infrastructure to support its growth in artificial intelligence (AI) and the metaverse, the addition of Tan and Arnold, who have expertise in silicon and energy infrastructure, will aid in executing their long-term vision, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
This is in contrast to former Meta operating chief Sheryl Sandberg, who recently announced her resignation from the board. Sandberg, who joined the company from Google, played a crucial role in helping Zuckerberg grow Facebook from a startup to a successful digital advertising company.
Tan, who expressed his excitement about joining the board, believes that Meta has a significant role to play in the future of computing as they continue to evolve their platform and app offerings.
Arnold, who is the co-founder of Arnold Ventures philanthropy based in Houston, also brings valuable experience to the board, having previously co-founded and served as chairman of the energy company Grid United.
He also worked at Enron, where he oversaw natural gas derivatives trading.
Tan and Arnold will be joining a board that includes Peggy Alford, a former executive at PayPal, venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, Drew Houston, the CEO of Dropbox, Robert M. Kimmitt, former U.S. deputy secretary of the treasury, and Tony Xu, the CEO of DoorDash.
