Casio’s Attempt At Making A Ring is Just A Miniature Wristwatch

Casio, known for its iconic watches since 1974, is now extending its expertise beyond the wrist with a new wearable: a ring.

However, before you get too excited, it’s important to note that this is not a smart ring like the Oura Ring or Samsung Galaxy Ring.

Instead, Casio has taken a traditional wristwatch and miniaturized it to fit on your finger, creating one of the more unique wearable devices we’ve seen in recent times.

The ring, named CRW-001-1JR, was created as part of Casio’s celebration of its 50th anniversary in the watchmaking industry.

Measuring about an inch in size, it features a six-segment LCD display that shows the time, including hours, minutes, and seconds.

There are several buttons on the ring to activate functions such as a stopwatch, backlight, alarm, date, and more.

Notably, the ring does not include a calculator—a feature that would likely be difficult to use on such a small display.

Casio Watch Rings

The CRW-001-1JR is crafted from a single piece of metal using an injection molding process, giving it a premium appearance.

However, because the ring is made from a single metal piece, Casio is only offering it in a US size 10.5.

To ensure a snug fit, Casio provides a silicone adapter, in contrast to Timex’s ring, which comes with a flexible “band” to accommodate larger finger sizes.

Additionally, Casio claims that the ring’s battery can last up to two years and is easily replaceable. The entire device is also waterproof, making it durable for daily use.

It’s important to note that this ring is not a smart ring. It doesn’t offer fitness tracking, heart rate monitoring, step counting, or any of the other health features typically associated with smart rings from brands like Oura, Samsung, and Amazfit.

Rather, the CRW-001-1JR is more of a novelty item and a marketing stunt by Casio to mark its 50 years in the watch industry.

This is somewhat ironic, given the fact that it’s being released as a ring, rather than a traditional watch.

Casio will be selling the CRW-001-1JR in Japan for ¥19,800, which is approximately $128.
