MediaTek has officially confirmed the launch of its new Dimensity 9400 chip, set for release on October 9 at 10:30 local time.
The launch date had already been hinted at by both Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station and a MediaTek executive.
In a teaser (H/T @yabhishekhd), MediaTek showcased some of the chip’s key features, many of which were previously leaked or rumored.
The Dimensity 9400 will retain the 8-core CPU design of its predecessor, featuring a primary Cortex-X925 core.
Although details about its additional cores are not yet confirmed, it’s likely that the chip will include a mix of Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 cores.
Despite this, in terms of clock speed, the Dimensity 9400 falls behind competitors like Qualcomm and Apple, as indicated by its lower single-core performance on Geekbench.
Where the Dimensity 9400 truly shines is in its GPU. The chip’s Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU reportedly outperforms the Apple M4 in benchmark tests, an impressive achievement for a smartphone SoC.
Additional features include 10.7 Gbps LPDDR5X memory from Samsung and an upgraded NPU. The Dimensity 9400 is expected to make its debut with the Vivo X200 series on October 14.
