Google has introduced a new feature for Pixel phones that allows users to bypass charging when the battery limit is set to 80%. This new option was part of the latest Pixel Feature Drop update.
When users activate the “Limit to 80%” setting in the Charging optimization menu, the phone will charge as usual until it reaches 80% battery.
At this point, the phone will show a “Done charging” message and stop sending power to the battery.
Instead, it will draw power directly from the charger to continue running the device.
This feature can contribute to improved battery health by reducing voltage stress and limiting the effects of trickle charging. Google has confirmed that this behavior is by design and intentional.
With this addition, Pixel phones are now aligned with other Android brands like Samsung, Sony, and ASUS, which already feature similar battery-bypass options.
As a Pixel user, it’s great to see Google gradually implementing features that other Android manufacturers have had for some time.
While stock Android has its advantages, it can sometimes feel less exciting when missing out on certain features. This addition is a welcome step in addressing that gap.
