Ahead of the release of its new set-top streaming device, the Google TV Streamer, Google is rolling out updates to all Google TV devices.
These updates include a new home panel for managing smart home devices, AI-powered screensavers, a revamped sports page, and more.
On Monday, the tech giant revealed a range of new features aimed at enhancing the Google TV platform.
A key update is the introduction of a home panel that serves as a control center for smart home gadgets such as lights, thermostats, and security cameras.
Users will also receive new doorbell notifications, allowing them to see who’s at the door without having to pause their show.
Additionally, Google Assistant voice commands enable hands-free control of the devices when the remote is misplaced.
This home panel can be accessed through Quick Settings, where it opens as a feed on the right-hand side of the screen.
Another major addition is a new sports page located in the “For You” tab.
Here, sports fans can find all their favorite content in one place, including live games, upcoming events, sports commentary, YouTube highlights, and personalized recommendations based on their viewing habits.
Google TV is also getting enhanced AI features, including the ability to generate custom screensaver artwork from user prompts.
Originally introduced for the Google TV Streamer, the platform’s new “Overviews” feature—powered by Gemini—provides concise summaries for top shows and movies, along with season breakdowns and audience reviews.
The platform’s dedicated free streaming app, Google Freeplay, is also receiving an update. The new channel guide will allow users to browse 150 free channels more efficiently, organizing them by genre and topic.
Moreover, Google TV is expanding its lineup of Art TVs to include brands like Hisense and TCL, and projectors from manufacturers such as Epson, Vankyo, and XGIMI.
The service is also being launched in additional countries, including Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
These updates coincide with the launch of the Google TV Streamer, which is set to replace the Chromecast device lineup. Google now boasts over 270 million monthly active devices on both Google TV and Android TV.
