Hezbollah carried out drone attacks on two Israeli bases on April 23 in retaliation for the killing of one of its fighters, deemed significant by Israel. The attacks targeted north Israel, near Acre, but Israel reported no hits on its bases.
Tensions between Hezbollah and Israel have increased since Hamas initiated an attack on Israel in October, leading to frequent cross-border exchanges of fire. However, Hezbollah’s recent rocket assaults have extended beyond its usual target areas.
Hezbollah stated that the strikes were in response to an Israeli drone attack that killed one of its members in south Lebanon earlier that day. Israel claimed to have intercepted two suspicious aerial targets off the northern coast.
A source close to Hezbollah reported that an Israeli drone strike deep into Lebanon killed an engineer working for the group’s air defense forces near Tyre, about 35 kilometers from the border.
Hezbollah confirmed the death of one of its fighters in the strike, emphasizing that he was from the area where the vehicle was hit. Another fighter was reportedly killed by Israel, according to Hezbollah.
The Israeli army stated that it had eliminated “two significant terrorists in Hezbollah’s aerial unit” on Tuesday morning and overnight, asserting their involvement in planning and executing terrorist attacks against Israel.
Previously, Hezbollah downed an Israeli drone on Sunday evening. The conflict has resulted in casualties on both sides, with the death toll in Lebanon reaching 378, including Hezbollah fighters and civilians.
Israel reported 11 soldiers and eight civilians killed on its side of the border.
