High Demand For Argos’ Playstation 5 Limited Edition Leading To Delays

The overwhelming demand for the PlayStation 5 Limited Edition seems to have caused technical issues for Argos, which is now cancelling some of its pre-orders.

Last month, Sony announced it would celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary by offering fans a chance to purchase new PS1-inspired console bundles. Pre-orders for these bundles went live a week later.

As expected, the majority of the PlayStation 5 bundles sold out almost instantly, and it was no surprise that many were quickly listed on eBay by scalpers, with prices reaching as high as £8,000.

Thankfully, last week, some retailers restocked their supply and began accepting additional pre-orders. However, Argos has since started cancelling some of these orders, stating that they were “processed incorrectly.”

On Monday, fans began sharing messages they received from Argos, indicating a “mass cancellation” of pre-orders, though no further details were provided.

When some customers reached out to Argos for clarification, they were informed that the cancellation emails were sent in error and that their orders were still valid.

In a tweet, one customer shared a response from an Argos representative confirming that their order had not been affected:

However, today, Argos confirmed the unfortunate news that some of the pre-orders have indeed been cancelled.

“We saw huge demand for the PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary Limited Edition console and unfortunately had to cancel some orders after they were processed incorrectly,” Argos told Eurogamer.

“We have contacted the customers affected to express how sorry we are for the disappointment this has caused and to confirm that they will receive a full refund.”

Argos has not issued a broader statement regarding the glitch or who exactly is impacted, so it seems the only way to confirm if your pre-order is still valid is if you haven’t received any cancellation notification, or by contacting Argos directly for clarification.

For those who missed both the initial and restock pre-order windows for the PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary Edition, it appears that no further orders will be accepted, meaning the opportunity to purchase one has now likely passed.
