McDonald’s faced a global system failure that led to store closures and disruptions in online and app orders across various countries, including the United States, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom.

McDonald’s acknowledged the technology outage in a statement to CNN, stating that they were working to resolve the issue.

They emphasized that the problem was not related to a cybersecurity incident. However, a spokesperson declined to provide further details regarding the cause or the full extent of the outage.

A cashier at a McDonald’s store in New York mentioned to CNN that their IT system was offline from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Meanwhile, McDonald’s Japan announced on X that many of their stores nationwide had temporarily suspended operations.

In the UK, Maria Avram, an employee at a McDonald’s restaurant in London, informed CNN that there was a system outage from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. local time. During this period, staff had to manually take orders and communicate them to the kitchen.
