Mercedes-Benz HPC North America, a joint venture between subsidiaries of Mercedes-Benz Group and MN8 Energy, will be installing 400 kW DC fast chargers at 100 Starbucks locations along Interstate 5 (I-5) on the US West Coast. I-5 is a major 1,400-mile highway stretching from Canada to Mexico, making these charging stations strategically placed for long-distance travelers.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to support the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) by developing a public charging network that is accessible to all EV brands.
The fast chargers at Starbucks will be available for use by any EV, not just Mercedes-Benz vehicles. This move aligns with Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s goal of supporting the broader adoption of electric mobility.
By making these chargers accessible to all, Mercedes-Benz HPC aims to create a more inclusive and extensive charging infrastructure, promoting the convenience and practicality of EVs.
Andrew Cornelia, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, emphasized the vision of seamless EV charging experiences, likening it to the ease of enjoying a Starbucks coffee. This reflects the company’s commitment to integrating EV charging into everyday routines, making it a hassle-free part of life for EV owners.
Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging inaugurated its first North American site at Mercedes-Benz USA’s headquarters in Sandy Springs, Georgia, in November 2023. This was part of an initial $1 billion investment in a charging network.
Since its launch, the network has expanded to include 400 kW EV chargers at a dozen locations across several southern states. The company plans to extend its network to nearly half of the US states within the next 12-18 months, reinforcing its commitment to building a robust EV infrastructure nationwide.
