Microsoft has halted updates to Windows 11 version 24H2 for PCs running certain Ubisoft games.
This decision comes in response to reports that titles such as Star Wars Outlaws and several entries in the Assassin’s Creed series were crashing after the latest Windows update.
Compatibility Hold and Investigation
The company confirmed the “compatibility hold” in a status update released last night and announced that it is collaborating with Ubisoft to resolve the issue.
Until a fix is implemented, Microsoft advises users not to manually install the Windows 11 24H2 update on affected systems.
Microsoft’s Statement on the Problem
In its official update, Microsoft described the issue and the impacted Ubisoft games as follows:
After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games.
These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading, or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen. The affected games are:
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Assassin’s Creed Origins
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
- Star Wars Outlaws
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Temporary Measures
Ubisoft has released a hotfix aimed at addressing the crashing issues specifically in Star Wars Outlaws. However, Microsoft notes that players using the hotfix may still encounter performance problems.
Both companies are working to identify and implement a permanent solution, with Microsoft continuing to monitor the situation and provide updates as progress is made.
