Netflix Ends Basic Plan in UK and Canada, Faces Backlash

Netflix has decided to stop offering its Basic subscription plan in the UK and Canada starting from June 4, causing a lot of upset. They had already stopped this plan for new subscribers worldwide, which is a big change in how Netflix works.

I got an email about this change because I’m currently on the Basic plan. They’re making all of us switch to the Standard plan with ads.

The reason Netflix is doing this is to make more money from ads. They think they can make around $1 billion more in 2024, which is a lot more than before.

This change is not making a lot of people happy. Many subscribers in the UK and Canada are upset and have been talking about it on social media. Some are even saying they’ll quit Netflix because of this.

People are also unhappy about other recent changes, like Netflix being stricter about sharing passwords and raising prices.

The new plan will let you watch videos in better quality and on two devices at once, which is good. But having to watch ads is a big downside for many people.

Netflix received backlash from users, threats to cancel memberships, dissatisfaction on social media

Even though the price is going down in the UK, from £7.99 to £4.99, it’s not enough to make up for not having an ad-free option.

This change might not be good for Netflix in the long run. Some subscribers might leave, which could hurt Netflix’s position as the top streaming service. Other streaming services offer different plans, including ones without ads.

We’ll have to wait and see how this all turns out. The decision to get rid of the Basic plan could either help Netflix or hurt it. As June 4 gets closer, we’ll see how it affects the battle between streaming services.
