PS5 Pro Upgrades The Gaming Experience With Ray Tracing and Better Graphics

Upgrading from the base PlayStation 5 to the PlayStation 5 Pro feels similar to upgrading from an RTX 3060 or 3060 Ti to an RTX 4070 GPU, giving users access to visual features that weren’t previously available.

In a recent video shared on YouTube, the tech experts at Digital Foundry discussed Sony’s upcoming mid-generation system after getting hands-on experience with it.

They noted that in games like F1 24, where the developer made significant efforts for the PS5 Pro update, the upgrade from the base model feels like upgrading the GPU in a gaming system.

Even in cases where the visual enhancements aren’t as pronounced, the PlayStation 5 Pro is still a worthwhile investment for players who enjoy demanding console games in Performance Mode and want to see much better visual quality.

However, the system doesn’t offer a substantial leap in visual improvements over the base model’s Quality Mode.

At 4K resolution and standard viewing distances, the image quality in Quality Mode remains excellent.

Still, the enhanced ray tracing capabilities of the PS5 Pro might appeal even to players using this mode.

Therefore, despite its high price, the PlayStation 5 Pro can certainly be considered worth it.

While some may argue about the console’s price point compared to a gaming PC with similar specifications, Sony’s console offers a completely hassle-free experience that many find preferable to a PC.

Digital Foundry also emphasized the significance of the PlayStation 5 Pro’s PSSR upscaler. This upscaling technology not only makes the upgrade more impactful than the raw specifications might suggest but also enhances the visual quality of ray tracing.

However, it doesn’t work in the same way as NVIDIA’s DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction, as Sony’s upscaler cannot separate all inputs from the final color value of a scene like NVIDIA’s technology can.

Fortunately, players won’t have to wait much longer to decide if the PlayStation 5 Pro is worth the upgrade from the base model. The console is set to launch worldwide in less than a month, on November 7th.
