Squadron 42 is now set for a 2026 release, as announced at this year’s CitizenCon, with the game confirmed to include 30-40 hours of gameplay.
This announcement followed a live demo of Squadron 42 at CitizenCon, where the first chapter of the game was showcased in impressive detail.
The demo opened with a prologue featuring a space battle that serves as an introduction to the game’s expansive universe.
However, the presentation wasn’t without technical difficulties. Two game crashes interrupted the demo, which was being played live on stage.
The second crash was humorously attributed to the computer rather than to any instability in the game itself.
Following the demo, Chris Roberts took the stage to reaffirm that Squadron 42 will offer around 30-40 hours of gameplay and that the team is “confident” about meeting the 2026 release target.
Despite the confidence, Cloud Imperium Games is known for delays in its scheduled release dates, so it remains uncertain if they will meet this new target.
Earlier in the week, Insider Gaming detailed some of the challenges the company has encountered with its development timelines.
Squadron 42 was first announced on October 10th, 2012, alongside Star Citizen, with both games launching a crowdfunding campaign.
According to the official website, the combined total for Squadron 42 and Star Citizen’s crowdfunding has reached $729 million as of this writing.
