Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed that the company’s search engine is set to undergo significant changes in 2025, stating, “I think we are going to be able to tackle more complex questions than ever before.”
Speaking at the NYT DealBook Summit on Wednesday, Pichai emphasized the scale of the transformation: “I think you’ll be surprised, even early in ‘25, by the kind of newer things Search can do compared to where it is today.”
Pichai also addressed remarks made earlier this year by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who suggested that Google should have been the “default winner” in the AI race.
In response, Pichai remarked, “I would love to do a side-by-side comparison of Microsoft’s own models and our models,” highlighting that Microsoft relies on models developed by its partner, OpenAI.
“When I look at what’s coming ahead, we are in the earliest stages of a profound shift,” Pichai said, underscoring Google’s commitment to staying at the forefront of AI innovation.
“I just think there’s so much innovation ahead. We are committed to being at the state of the art in this field, and I think we are.”
This year, Google initiated a sweeping AI overhaul of its search platform, introducing features such as AI-generated search summaries and an upgraded Lens tool that allows users to search the web using video.
Additionally, the company is preparing to roll out a major update to its Gemini AI model as it seeks to compete with Microsoft, OpenAI, and the AI-powered search engine Perplexity.
