TikTok is introducing several updates to its direct messaging features, including the addition of group chats, a highly requested feature by users. Although not available globally yet, those with access can create group chats with up to 32 participants.
This update allows users to engage in more dynamic conversations with multiple friends simultaneously.
To start a group chat, users can either tap the Chat button in their inbox or select a name from their messages list and choose “More options” to begin adding friends.
Alternatively, users can share a post with multiple people, which will prompt the option to create a group chat directly from the shared video. This makes it easier to start discussions about specific content with a group.
Only mutual followers can be invited to group chats, and there are age restrictions in place. Users aged 13 to 15 cannot access group chats, while those aged 16 and 17 can only join if they have at least one mutual friend in the chat.
Additionally, younger users who create group chats must manually approve new participants, ensuring more control over their interactions.
Alongside group chats, TikTok is also adding the ability to use stickers in direct messages, offering a fun and visual way for users to communicate.
Users can create and upload custom stickers, which adds another layer of personalization to their messaging experience. These updates reflect TikTok’s ongoing efforts to enhance user engagement and social interaction within the app.
