Amidst the burgeoning number of internet users worldwide, one smartphone manufacturer is endeavoring to enhance its core internet business to enrich user experiences.
Currently, there are an estimated 5.3 billion internet users globally, representing two-thirds of the world’s population. Online penetration rates in Europe and North America have surged, surpassing 90 percent on average, up from 70 percent in 2010, as reported by the World Bank.
In light of this burgeoning market, the demand for online services is gaining momentum, presenting a significant growth opportunity for consumer electronics manufacturer Xiaomi.
Leveraging its customizable operating system MIUI, which is transitioning to HyperOS for the global market and currently boasts over 623 million monthly active users, Xiaomi is strategically positioned to expand its internet business portfolio. This expansion encompasses services such as advertising, payments, app and game distribution, and content integration.
At the Xiaomi Internet Partner Conference 2024 in Beijing, Chan Liu, General Manager of Xiaomi’s Internet Business Department, highlighted the company’s commitment to fostering a global internet service ecosystem.
She emphasized the ecosystem’s ability to provide users with exceptional experiences while facilitating developer growth, fostering a cycle of continuous advancement and mutual support. Liu also underscored Xiaomi’s dedication to collaborative development with global partners for mutual benefit.
In 2023, Xiaomi achieved record-high internet services revenue, with MIUI witnessing unprecedented monthly active users both domestically and internationally. Notably, the company intensified its efforts in overseas markets, contributing to 30 percent of total internet services revenue in the third quarter of 2023.
As part of its global expansion strategy, Xiaomi aims to enhance three core service areas within its internet services ecosystem: app and game distribution, content integration services, and user growth and customer success.
Notably, the Global IAP Games Joint Operation focuses on game distribution, leveraging Xiaomi’s official app store GetApps to facilitate user acquisition and revenue growth for developers.
Moreover, Xiaomi’s suite of mobile games services includes a comprehensive payment infrastructure covering 400 channels across 100 markets, ensuring seamless in-game transactions.
The company’s advertising services have also yielded significant results, as exemplified by the collaboration with Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, which witnessed a substantial increase in new installations through digital advertising on GetApps.
Furthermore, Xiaomi has introduced Instant Web, a proprietary web acceleration framework designed to enhance webpage loading speeds by up to eight times. Instant Web aims to address the critical issue of webpage loading times, particularly significant for e-commerce stores and online retailers.
Additionally, Xiaomi unveiled the Columbus Monetization Platform, empowering developers to optimize their app traffic monetization through flexible budget options and real-time bidding. These initiatives underscore Xiaomi’s commitment to nurturing its internet services business and fostering collaborative growth within its ecosystem.
By aligning its objectives with those of its partners and clients, Xiaomi aims to create enduring value for all participants in its internet services ecosystem.
Through its developer-friendly revenue-share policy and collaborative approach, Xiaomi seeks to enhance global market successes and promote the broader societal benefits of mobile, internet, and digital technologies.
